spin off to CSI: NY...WHAT DA EFF?!?!

i had thought the night would be like any other wednesday night. CSI: Miami to cap off a hectic day. then 10 minutes into the show, i was left with my jaw hanging. gary sinese came into the shot. it hit me, this was the spin off from Miami to NY, just like what they did with Las Vegas to Miami. after the show, the difference between the three CSIs were obvious.

CSI: Las Vegas

CAST: with a cast of lesser known actors, the series gave off a more realistic take on forensic science. the cast was well thought of and nothing will ever come close to this original. i love the fact that gil grisom lets his emotions come out once in a while.

SOUNDTRACK: i loved the opening billboard. the who's "who are you" is so perfect!

FILM TREATMENT: millions of lights illuminate las vegas, and it's these lights that they use for the series. very natural lighting. occational hazing around the characters accentuate the fact that they are set in an environment with varying temperatures. bitter cold in the winter and harsh heat in the summer.

CSI: Miami

CAST: i don't like david carusso. i'll always associate him with the other cop shows that he's done. emily proctor is that blond that was put on the show to prove that not all blonds are dumb.

SOUNDTRACK: a high point in the series was when they used "gabriel" by lamb at the end of one episode when they buried a hispanic girl. very touching. very appropriate.

FILM TREATMENT: the beaches, blue skies, bright sun. the show is very bright, with the stucco houses, palm trees, the greens and blues of the ocean. i like it when they use the orange and red filters during dawn scenes.

CSI: New York

CAST: critics have been raving about the cast of this series. personally, i love gary sinese. i have yet to see how all the characters melt into the realm of forensic investigation.

SOUNDTRACK: i could only speculate on what the soundtrack will be. with the spin off episode with the miami cast, they used "teardrops" by massive attack. very promising! i'm thinking street music, very heavy on the rap and r&b. this is yet to be heard.

FILM TREATMENT: as with any show or movie based in new york, they always use the blue or gray filters to dim the shots. makes everything bleaker but the scenes action-packed. it makes the surroundings just an accessory, and make you focus on the actors. great technique!
