Some people don’t believe in it, some do. Marissa Tomei in “Only You” went running after her destiny through Italy. My friend calls his love “Destiny” (but that’s because of “brown eyes”…hehehe). This will be a series dealing with knowing your purpose and and fulfilling the destiny that God has for you.

Do you believe that you have a destiny to fulfill? I hope so. What I’m going to write is just an echo of the sessions that we’ve been having at New Life Christian Center, every Friday nights at 7PM. I Hope who ever reads this will get what I mean and will believe in it.

Fig. 1
PURPOSE ----> CREATION ----> CIRCUMSTANCE

Everyone has asked the question “ What’s my purpose?” No, it’s not just to go party, bum around, work, or whatever. God has a HIGHER purpose for your existence. You must be wondering what? That’s a good question. I personally don’t know yet what my purpose is. But I know God has one for me. I’m on this quest to find out what my purpose is.

How will you find out what your purpose is? As God knows your purpose, it’s Him you should ask. But, you can ask and ask, pray and pray that He show you your purpose, but if you’ve got the wrong set of eyes, you’ll never see it. I’m not talking about your physical eyes; you can’t gorge them out and ask for a new pair. It’s more on how you look at things and people. If you look at people and all you see is their physical appearance, their wealth, how they carry themselves, then, you’re looking at them in the wrong way. It’s like, when you interact with someone, you automatically place them in this shelf that you’ve made, each level according to characteristics that society or your environment has dictated. But everyone is equal. No one should make you feel inferior OR superior. One should look at the HEART, where HE is.

God could be showing you your purpose; it’s right there in front of your nose. But because, you’ve got the wrong set of eyes, there’s no way that you’re going to see it. In order to know your purpose, get the right set of eyes by not conforming to the values of the world, but by the values of the Lord (I’ll get into this two sessions from this one).

Alright, refer to Figure 1. It’s illustrated that your purpose comes before your creation and then your circumstance. Was anything created without a purpose? Of course not! So meaning, if your think you’re an accident, YOU’RE NOT! Your conception might have been an accident, but your existence is not. It’s not like God suddenly went, “OK, let’s make this girl/boy”. Then after you’re born, he scratches His head and says, “ Why in the world did I make him/her again?” Everything has a purpose even before creation. No one has ever invented anything without first thinking of its purpose. Just as you, you were planned to come into this world to fulfill your purpose.

In comes your circumstance. Your circumstance is your environment, the way you were brought up, the world you move in. Sometimes, we make our circumstance a reason for not fulfilling our purpose. Sometimes, it’s also hard for us to believe God’s purpose for us. What if you’re really, really poor and God says that you will be prosperous? Nothing is impossible with God, and all you have to do is obey Him and He’ll bless you beyond your wildest imagination.

A Biblical character that didn’t believe what God had for him was Gideon. No, Gideon is not just that Bible found in hotels (hehehe), he was this cowardly man that God commissioned to free the Israelites. When the angels called him, they said, “Hail mighty man of valor!”. Gideon could not believe that he would be doing what God said. But he did, and his circumstance did not stand in the way.

In the same way, we shouldn’t let our circumstance get in the way of what God has for us. Don’t let your weaknesses get a hold of your strengths. Don’t look at what you can’t do, but look at what you can do. Know who you are, and don’t let other people tell you otherwise. Know that when you have God on your side, nothing other people will say matters.

This concludes our first session of a series talking about God’s purpose for you and fulfilling your destiny. Next session in the following entry. J
